Artist's Comments

A photograph of myself holding the three jawbones unearthed in excavations in the Roman town of Silchester. This took me over half a day to excavate, and was in a context I was told was "meaningless" and that I should remove it with a mattock...

*whack*

- "Oooh - bone"

- "Oops..."

Luckily two of the three were mostly intact and could be identified as belonging one to a sheep or goat and one to a cow.

This certainly counts among my best finds :)

i know, bones may be pretty tricky :)

last year I spent two whole days exploring a grave full o them, I don't know how many guys were there, being burned and all that stuff. In the end I was really pissed of - no other findings, just fragments of bones, for two whole days. Nightmare.
